I'm on board with acquiring Semin as long as it is an affordable cost. |

No thanks to Semin. I get that he has good possession numbers but he doesn't score. 2 goals this season.
Now I know maybe the change of scenery or playing with Malkin could help that, but even at $3.5 Mil. that still seems like a risk not worth taking, especially when you can have guys like Comeau possessing just as well and scoring more for a lot cheaper.

Semin half retained is ok as long as it's sutter or Kunitz strait up. I'm not a big proponent of trading Kunitz so I'd prefer sutter go. I'm not really sure semin is a better player at this point |

You can always count on Mike for a timely article such as the one he posted this morning. Quality work on his end.
As for Semin, I'd do it in a heartbeat if they would retain anywhere from 40-50%. I never bought into the crap about him. He's good, he's smart, and underated in his two way abilities.
With all that said, it would take the clearing of some cap, either Sutter or Kunitz. I would think Sutter is the first to go because his youth could bring back some prospects to offset a semin trade. But I wonder what it would cost to get him. |

Interesting... Kunitz + for Semin with half the salary...
Or Sutter ++ for Semin with half.
That would be pretty legit.
So, what is the price for Semin though? Offering to retain a big portion might imply low... but to me, that just offsets them lowering his value, and hes still going to get what a big time winger would cost. |

Not sure semin would cost a lot even with retention. They've been scratching him a lot. Sutter and maybe b level prospect for semin with 50% retained. |

Now lets pretend like we only have room for one, which is a reasonable assumption, who do you take, Semin or Staal?

No thanks on Semin. He's a world-class loser. I have no idea how anyone could believe that he could help the team win a Cup. When he was a Capital, I LOVED when the Penguins played against him, because he folded like a lawn chair.
I don't think GMJR would be interested at this point. Here's what he had to say about Semin last January:
"He came off a great year, and we are all very disappointed with his production at this time. He's a guy who is paid to score goals and put up points, and he hasn't done that. He's trying to play an east-west game when the rest of the team is playing a north-south game, and he needs to get his act going pretty soon... I do think it's the focus and the will to do well." |

I would take Semin+(pick or decent prospect) at 50% retained for Scuderi + Sutter. But I wouldn't do it til the offseason. |

Christ, I can't wait until the trade deadline is over and all this discussion on stupid ideas halts. Alex Semin for the next three years will make 7 million dollars. His best year was in 09-2010 with 84 points. Since then, he has yet to crack 55. He has two goals and 14 assists in 37 games this year. Let that sink in. He is a loser.
There was a reason why Washington didn't resign him to a long term contract and went year to year until he was gone.
When a team like Pittsburgh has 35% of its cap invested in three players, you want to add a proven enigma at 7 million to the fray? That is shear lunacy at its best. I'm sure Carolina would gladly ship him north for not that much as far as a return because he has sucked in Carolina and his contract is among the worst in the league. Then again, Carolina might have two of the worst five contracts in the league right now. |

The entire point was would he be worth trading for at max salary retention (3.5 AAV) not at full 7. |

What if he were to pull off the Bartley Hat trick in the playoffs every away game? |

I really like Frolik and wish the pens could have grabbed him. I'm wishing in the offseason |
